One team for your whole heating system

Krinkie’s has served Twin Cities homeowners since 1981 as a locally owned company. We repair, replace and maintain furnaces, boilers, heat pumps and water heaters. Our technicians are certified, background-checked and drug-tested.

Having one company handle every part of your heating system keeps things simple. The same team that tunes up your furnace can answer questions about your water heater or a new heat pump.

Heating repair, 24 hours a day

When your heat stops working, a certified technician finds the cause and explains it in plain terms. You get the price before any work starts, and then we restore your heat. Our technicians are on call around the clock for furnace repair, boiler repair and heat pump repair.

Ask about joining our Krinkie’s Club membership to receive a reduced trip charge and up to a 20% discount on most repairs. Members also get priority service.

Before you call, check a few simple things. Make sure the thermostat is set to heat and has working batteries. Check that the furnace filter is not clogged with dust. If the system still will not run, call us instead of resetting it over and over.

Repair or replace? A simple rule of thumb

A repair usually makes sense on a system that is reasonably young and otherwise reliable. Replacement deserves a look when a furnace is more than 15 years old and needs frequent repairs. Rising energy bills and rooms that never warm up point the same way.

Think about the next few winters, not just today’s repair bill. Paying for one repair after another on an aging system often costs more than planning a replacement. A planned replacement also lets you choose the timing instead of reacting to a breakdown.

We give you both options honestly, with prices for each. You decide, and there is no pressure either way.

Replacement and installation

When replacement is the better choice, we assess your home and ductwork or piping first. Then we explain your options and give you a written quote. We install high-efficiency furnaces, boilers and heat pumps sized for your home, and Krinkie’s is a Daikin ComfortPro dealer.

A heat pump is now a realistic option for many Minnesota homes. The U.S. Department of Energy notes that cold-climate heat pumps are designed to perform in temperatures as low as 5°F. Learn more on our heat pump installation and service page.

If you replace a gas furnace or boiler this year, check for rebates first. If Xcel Energy supplies your gas, Xcel Energy’s Minnesota rebate summary lists furnace rebates of $200 to $400 for 95% AFUE and up, and $250 for boilers rated 95% AFUE or higher. The application must be postmarked by September 30 of the year after installation. If another utility serves your home, check its programs.

Seasonal maintenance

Schedule maintenance during heating season to keep your system safe and efficient. It also catches small problems before they turn into a January breakdown. The EPA advises having a trained professional inspect, clean and tune up central heating systems each heating season.

Schedule furnace and boiler service in early fall, before the heating season starts. The Krinkie’s Club maintenance plan includes two tune-ups a year, so your heating and cooling are both covered.

Between visits, check your furnace filter every month during the heating season. Replace it when it looks gray and dusty. Keep the area around your furnace, boiler and water heater clear of stored items.

Safety: what not to do, and when to call 911

Some heating work is not safe for a homeowner to attempt. Do not open gas valves, take apart burners, or work on furnace wiring. Heat pump refrigerant must be handled by a certified technician.

If you smell gas, leave the house right away without flipping switches or using your phone inside. From a safe distance, call 911 and Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-2999. If another company supplies your gas, call the number on your gas bill.

If your carbon monoxide alarm sounds, get everyone outside and call 911. Once you are safe, call us so a technician can find the source before you use the system again.

  • Makes new banging, squealing or rumbling noises
  • Is pushing your gas or electric bill up
  • Is more than 15 years old and needs frequent repairs
  • Has not had a professional tune-up in the past year
